Castrations on a Conveyer Belt

A few days ago the Budagirls, Thea and Runa, set out to do some castrations. With the supervision of Viktor, Budadogs' own veterinarian, three of our Budadogs were castrated. Now that all three dogs are fine, and no post operative complications occurred, we feel it is safe to blog about this event. In this way our followers can see some of the work the Budagirls do:)

As a policy, our organisation castrates budadog males in need of castration. We are careful not to castrate new Budadogs "too fast". This especially counts for dogs with behaviour problems such as anxiety aggression, or just timid and more careful males, as there may be a chance of increasing the problem. This theory is yet to be explored completely, and is currently a hot topic in the field of domesticated canine behaviour.

First man out: Paulie.
Thea sets the i.v. catheter, while Viktor, Budadogs' own veterinarian, holds Paulie, reassuring him that "he will be fine"

Thea is surgically preparing Paulie. On preparation Thea found only one testicle. This is a relatively normal condition in dogs, and is called cryptorchidism. In crypotorchid dogs the "missing" testicle remains in the abdomen from foetal life. The remaining testicle can cause development of cancer and should always be removed. Cryptorchidism is inherited, and all cryptorchid dogs should be castrated to prevent inheritance of the condition.

  2. I work at a slaughter house for sheep. Normally we slaughter about 1500 rams a day. They are 8 months, climb an ewe, and than straight to the slaughter house. A slit in the leg, compressor blowing them up, slicing the seem of the ball sack, air comes out and than cut them open. About a year ago ,we had to close down for renovations. When we opened up again, we got loads of older males. Big problems with agression. They broke out, etc. Farmers were happy we started slaughtering again. The first day of the reopening the guys came in, sat down starting to ride and ejaculate the whole front under. Horrific. Me and the girls had .22 pistols and started shooting through the heads, but even than more than 70 procent of the guys, just went on with their behaviour like the bullet never hit the brains. Anita, our vet, said that their testicles were so developed at that age, they should have got rid of them much earlier. To the guys, ejaculating is only a convulsion. Their balls feeding their nervous system with twenty times the amount of testosterone than their brains made them hump further at 2 mph, brains or no brains! They were like in a twenty minute shortcutting, wanting to ejaculate, but having no more brains to tell their balls to do so. It was very funny, I kind of loved it. But it became annoying at one point. Some of the guys were pushing themselves against the hatch like crazy. The next day we just split their balls perpendicularly, straight through their ball sacks, right after their shot. They went on for a few seconds, and than dropped. It just shows how certain ewes can be about being jumped in a matter of a minute. They don't care, they just continue eating, while the guy enjoys himself, but not for long,...
